Written Book Reports
The written book report has three parts: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion, and should be 1 ½ to 2 pages in length.
The Introduction: (a) Begin with the title, the author, and the subject or theme of the book in the first sentence. (b) Include the setting (time and place) and an interesting statement, a quotation, or some background information. (c) Conclude the introduction with a sentence expressing your opinion. Choose one aspect of the book that impressed you.
The Body: (a) Begin with a short summary of the book. Include only the main points or events.

  • For fiction, write a plot summary; include the conflict, the climax, and the resolution.
  • For nonfiction, write a brief summary of the book.
  • For biography, relate the main events in the person’s life. For a biography about an author, include events that led to his or her writing career and titles of his or her major works.

(b) In the following paragraphs of the body, support your opinion by using incidents, details, and quotations.
The Conclusion: (a) Begin by restating your opinion. (b) Provide your personal evaluation of the book. (c) Provide a personal response from a Christian worldview.
